Monastery of Panaghia Chrysoskalitissa, situated 76 kilometers far from Chania, at the Southwest, at the Western coast of Crete.Panaghia Chrysoskalitissa (meaning “ gold steps”) is one of the most important Monasteries . The old tradition of the Monastery pretends that one out of the 90 steps dug in the rock and leading to the top is made of gold (hence its name); however, only the sinless are able to distinguish that.
The cave of Agia Sophia is located less than 2 kilometers after the village of Topolia. A small path leads the visitor to the cave and the chapel of Agia Sophia. It is located at a height of 285 meters. The main hall has a diameter of 70 meters and a height of 20 meters. Huge stalactites, over 5 meters high, and even bigger stalagmites of the cave. A few fig trees have grown in the cave and the moss on the rocks has painted the walls a deep green.
